Fussy Baby
Why is my baby so fussy?
|
Fussy babies can be trying to a new family even a family with some experience, Some babies get labeled "colicky." Some babies get labeled "easy." In my opinion, the hardest label to deal with is "fussy baby." When you know it's not colic, it's not a food reaction, it's not because baby is hungry or wet, you come to the end of the rope and realize you have a fussy baby. Dr. Sears likes to call them "high-needs." I personally don't like that term. It makes me think of special needs. Some people don't like to call them fussy, they say that it implies that something is wrong with the baby. Either way, these fussy babies really don't have anything wrong with them. In fact, I like to think that these babies are doing something right. Life with a fussy baby is hard. They are demanding. They want what they want and they want it right now. But if you take a moment and learn to appreciate them you can realize they are doing you a huge favor. They can teach you how to parent. They teach us that babies deserve to have their needs met, they deserve to be in the middle of the action, not amusing themselves in the corner. The one possible life-saving device can be a sling or baby carrier. The type of carrier is up to you. Pouches are great for popping in and out, ring slings allow for easier hands free breast feeding, Mei Tai and wraps are great for long carries for the day, You will be the best gage for what you what and what your baby needs. Remember if it feels right to you then it is right for your baby. Your common sense is your best friend, don’t worry about what worked for your mom, the mom next door, or the other ladies in your playgroup. Just focus on you, your baby and your family. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
